Center on
Philanthropy and Civil Society
2008 International Fellows Program
Diversity Fellowship
The Program
The
Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society offers a Diversity Fellowship
as part of its Emerging Leaders International Fellows Program (ELIFP).*
Diversity Fellowship recipients are selected from communities under-represented
in the U.S. grantmaking sector. Fellows are based at The Graduate Center
of The City University of New York, where they design and pursue an individualized
research project and participate in a seminar with other US and international
Third-Sector leaders.
- Fellows participate
in a 3-month seminar (March 3 to May 30, 2008) on the philanthropy and
nonprofit sector.
- The seminar sessions
include both lectures and intensive sessions with practitioners.
- Diversity Fellows
conduct original research designed to be of relevance to their home
organization. The research focus for the 2008 Diversity Fellowship is
on community based philanthropy.
- Site visits and/or
brief internships with community and private foundations provide Fellows
with insights into the day-to-day workings of these organizations.
- Mentorships with
prominent figures in the field and former Fellows provide opportunities
to build and strengthen ties to key national and international networks
of community foundation practitioners.
- Fellows will attend
the May 2008 Council on Foundation conferences.
Each fellowship
covers the cost of tuition and includes a $1,300 (less taxes) per month
stipend to cover living expenses. Housing is provided as is transportation
costs to and from New York City.
Eligibility
and Selection
The program is open to practitioners and researchers under the
age of 36. Applicants must hold a college or university degree. Preference
will be given to candidates with strong institutional ties and demonstrated
research skills.
