Assuming the role of being your own financial advisor is not quite analogous to being your
own oral surgeon, but not quite as simple as one might assume. I am a self-directed investor
guided by a regimen of reading and re-reading every book Mr. Swedroe has published. The
"Right Financial Plan" is a nice synopsis and guide to Mr. Swedroe's advice. In it he

An excellent book that covers all aspects of investing in a simplified and straightforward way.
For those who will believe the truth this book may obviate the need to highlight a "professional"
investment manager - one can follow his advice and manage a portfolio with minimal expenses.
I'd disagree with him about dollar cost averaging which I favor - and he doesn't point out
one of the key advantages of owning your own home, that you can deduct up to $250-$500,000

Another practical book from Larry Swedroe. The book is more than just how to invest one's money. It includes useful information on college savings, insurance, social security and other important topics. Can be read in sections that are applicable to you. I have read Larry's other books, and found new information in this one.

Larry Swedroe's latest book has added the next step for alot of investors in their decision making on their investments. His previous "The Only Guide" books explained in great detail the why you need to invest in passive / index mutual funds, the why you need to invest in certain fixed income investments, and the why you need invest in certain alternative invests (and I might add the why not on others, great format).
